Hilde De Weerdt

Professor of Chinese History   University of Leiden

Hilde De Weerdt is Professor of Chinese History at the Leiden Institute for Area Studies, University of Leiden. Before joining the University of Leiden, she was University Lecturer in Chinese History at the University of Oxford and Fellow of Pembroke College (2007-2012) and Reader in Chinese History (2012-2013) at King’s College London. She obtained her PhD from Harvard University and held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California at Berkeley, Stanford University, and Harvard University. She was also a visiting fellow at the Peking University Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Ministry of Science and Technology (Taipei), Kyoto University, Academia Sinica (Taipei), Beijing University, Sichuan University, Shanghai Normal University, Osaka City University, National Tsing Hua University, and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin.

Research project

The Chinese arts of governance in European political theory and
leadership literature.
  During her 2-month and a half stay at EURICS Professor De Weerdt will be working on two chapters in a monograph on the global history of Chinese political advice manuals.
